چکیده

We describe the CoJACK cognitive architecture. It is designed to provide an intuitive, high level behaviour representation language that exhibits variability across individuals and across time for use in synthetic environments. The included moderator layer enables modelling of physiological factors and affect. We report initial results of an investigation of variability and time-based moderation in the dTank simulation. The results show that moderation leads to interesting effects and that variability is generated in a principled and repeatable fashion.

Synthetic environments, particularly those that are built upon video games engines, offer impressive photo-realistic rendering of 3D environments. In parallel, human behaviour representations are becoming increasingly rich, building upon results from the cognitive and affective sciences. CoJACK: A High-Level Cognitive Architecture with Demonstrations of Moderators, Variability, and Implications for Situation Awareness

We report a high-level architecture, CoJACK, that provides insights on behavior variability, situation awareness, and behavioral moderators. CoJACK combines Beliefs/Desires/Intentions (BDI) agents’ high-level knowledge representation and usability with several aspects of low level cognitive architectures, including processing time predictions, errors, and traceability. CoJACK explores new areas...

Two Cognitive Modeling Frontiers: Emotions and Usability

This paper reviews three hybrid cognitive architectures (Soar, ACT-R, and CoJACK) and how they can support including models of emotions. There remain problems creating models in these architectures, which itself remains a research and engineering problem. Thus, the term cognitive science engineering is introduced as an area that would support making models easier to create, understand, and re-use.

Two Ways (Not) To Design a Cognitive Architecture

In this short paper, we argue that there are two conflicting agendas at play in the design of cognitive architectures. One is principled: to create a model of cognition and gain an understanding of cognitive processes. The other is practical: to build useful systems that have a cognitive ability and thereby provide robust adaptive behaviour that can anticipate events and the need for action. Th...

Toward a Unified Catalog of Implemented Cognitive Architectures

This work is a review of the online Comparative Table of Cognitive Architectures (the version that was available at http://bicasymposium.com/cogarch on September 20, 2010). This continuously updated online resource is a collective product of many researchers and developers of cognitive architectures. Names of its contributors (sorted alphabetically by the represented architecture name) are: Jam...
